in America---accumulating a nearly three hundred combined years of sports
history which includes twenty-one collective championships. From Glory Day chronicles twenty of
these athletes, many of whom have Hall of Fame or Championship status. In this book, five athletes from each of
Detroit’s four major professional sports teams share their personal stories
of struggle and success as they’ve transitioned from their final playing days
to normal, everyday lives. Former
Detroit Tigers pitcher Roger Mason (one of the featured athletes in the book)
will be joining author Kurt David for a book signing.
Book
Signing with Stephanie Mills, Jerry Dennis, John Knott
7-9p.m.
Michigan
was once covered with vast, unbroken forests of pine and hemlock mixed with
birch and poplar, and oak savannas marched as far as the eye could see…but in
the process of settling the state and exploiting its natural resources, we
have drained wetlands, dammed rivers, and cut all but a few remnants of the
virgin forests, leaving that untouched Michigan hard to imagine now. The
engaging essays in this book illustrate the range of ecosystems that The
Nature Conservancy has protected. Proceeds from this publication support
conservation in Michigan and the Great Lakes.
